The Yinggang Bridge belongs to the new transportation infrastructure of the extension master plan for the city of Qingpu. The objective is to provide the area for a new landmark, a recognizable piece of modern engineering, reasonable but original, inexpensive and avant-garde at the same time. The master plan foresees two parallel bridges and we take this important constrain as an opportunity for experimenting with the concept of series, and avoiding repetition: instead of duplicating or mirroring one solution, we will define open systems whose variables will enable us to introduce variation within formal consistency. Given the scale of the structural problem, two side spans of 45m and one central one of 80m, we propose three different concepts of arches combinations: cross, fold, spiral.
