Our target is to emphasize the east-west duality by keeping and extending the directions of the streets and intersecting them with each other above the canal. The resulting path, with its broken axis, is a very unique formal solution for a bridge, in which the unstable node brings structural stability. More than an efficient crossing over the canal, the extensions of the ramps provide pedestrians for the opportunity of relaxing on a quiet space over the water. From that privilege location, it is possible to contemplate the new neighborhood. According to the slopes prescribed by the local code, both ramps need to accommodate their landings following different strategies: straight on the east shore and folded on the west shore. Thus, they underline the two asymmetric halves of the bridge. |
