这是第一座由西班牙建筑师在中国完成的桥梁，其完成将是对现代建筑又一本土化解读。青浦步行桥有着极其重大的意义，它既有着强烈的西班牙建筑思想背景，又代表了对中国传统桥梁及建筑形态的充分理解和现代诠释。
步行桥是深刻理解基地、细致梳理场所历史文脉的产物：它以不对称轴线来强调环境肌理，并通过一个整体受力的空间立体桁架结构来实现如此构想，且由此创造出的折面桥顶木盖板、以及桥内外空间与环境的关系则充分展示了对江浙历史人文、传统技艺的深刻理解与灵活运用。
建筑师白德龙先生从建筑、结构工程学的双重背景出发，做了如此一个具有国际意义的前瞻探索。这也充分展示了自高迪之后，几代西班牙建筑结构大师如爱德华多·托鲁加、菲力斯·坎德拉、及圣地亚哥·卡拉特拉瓦等对结构形式的不懈探索与追求。可以说，青浦步行桥是一次融汇中西的尝试，尤其因之来自一位有着宽泛国际背景的西班牙青年建筑师在中国当下的建筑实践，而显得更加意义深远。

The first bridge designed in China by a Spanish architect inspires modernity with vernacular solutions.The Qingpu Pedestrian Bridge project has deep significance through the Chinese and the Spanish traditions.
The design of the Bridge responds to the interpretation of the site, with sensitivity to the contextual variables, historical references and circumstances that define its specific location.Surrounding urban flows are canalized by a bent axis, materialized via a three-dimensional beam whose shape expresses its structural behavior. The resulting unique space relations created by the folded surfaces are linked to the understanding of local bridges in Chinese water towns, and also from South China history and technology.
Pedro Pablo Arroyo combined his creative and technical background to produce a worldwide pioneering project. As other Spanish architect-engineers masters, he belongs to a professional tradition of structural form research that originates in Gaudi, and continues with figures like Eduardo Torroja, Felix Candela, or Santiago Calatrava. In a word, we could say that this project combines in singular way some of the most significant Chinese and Spanish architectural culture.
